The completion of a $19 million multigenerational affordable and supportive housing development in the Oswego County Village of Pulaski was recently announced by New York Governor Kathy Hochul.

According to a press release by the Governor's office, Selkirk Landing offers dozens of affordable homes for families and seniors and 20 homes for adults experiencing homelessness. The development also includes a 3,000-square-foot community facility offering workforce development programming.

"Increasing the supply of high-quality affordable housing is a priority in communities big and small across the state," Governor Hochul said. "As we invest in developments like Selkirk Landing, we can help ensure seniors and working families are able to remain in the communities they call home, while providing improved access to services for vulnerable New Yorkers and the surrounding community."

"With homes for families, seniors, and adults in need of supportive services, Selkirk Landing offers an inclusive, diverse, and healthy community for 64 households to live affordably and focus on achieving their personal goals," said New York State Homes and Community Renewal Commissioner Ruth Anne Visnauskas. "We are thrilled that our investment in this new development will have such a transformative impact in Pulaski and congratulate Lakewood Development and our partners for making this project a reality."

"Every family in Oswego County deserves a safe and secure place to call home," Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer said. "I am proud to see this substantial investment in both affordable and workforce housing in Central New York. By providing reliable and affordable housing to dozens of New York families and extending crucial supportive and job-readiness services to those facing housing insecurity, this forward-thinking development will help our state's most vulnerable residents live independently. I applaud Governor Hochul's efforts to increase access to affordable housing across New York, and I will never stop fighting to ensure that every single New Yorker has a roof over their head."

Selkirk Landing is right across the street from Pulaski Academy and Central Schools, per the Governor's office. It's also less than a mile from grocery stores, a pharmacy, a bank, and a daycare center. Laundry facilities, a common area with a kitchen, and a walking trail are among the residential amenities.

What about Watertown, and the surrounding area? People have had to leave the communities they grew up in and can't get affordable housing because we're competing with fort drum soldiers who take up every single affordable apartments and houses they can instead of living on base where there's been housing built there just for them. Our housing market is insane because the landlords know that the military pays a lot more for housing than civilians can afford. We also have A LOT more homeless than Pulaski does. No we get asked to donate land for a monstrosity of an event center that will only be affordable to the elite.
