Greg Abbott Makes Big Announcement About Migrant Crisis

    2023-06-17

Governor Greg Abbott recently announced the arrival of migrants bused to Los Angeles, California from Texas. According to a press release, the migrants were dropped off at Union Station in Los Angeles on Wednesday morning.

"Texas border towns are overwhelmed & overrun because of Biden’s border policies," said Greg Abbott. "Los Angeles is a major city that migrants seek to go to, particularly now that its city leaders approved its self-declared sanctuary city status. Our border communities are on the frontlines of President Biden's border crisis, and Texas will continue providing this much-needed relief until he steps up to do his job and secure the border."

Governor Abbott began busing migrants to other states last year to alleviate strain on southern border communities. Denver, New York City, Chicago, and Philadelphia have received migrants from Texas in recent months. And now, Los Angeles is the latest city to be added to that list.

Governor Abbott Has Been Criticized For His Controversial Stance On The Migrant Crisis.

Former Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot wrote a publicly available letter to the Texas Governor explaining her concern about his decision to bus migrants to Illinois.

"Chicago is a Welcoming City and we collaborate with County, State, and community partners to rise to this challenge," she said. "But your lack of consideration or coordination in an attempt to cause chaos and score political points has resulted in a critical tipping point in our ability to receive individuals and families in a safe, orderly, and dignified way. We simply have no more shelters, spaces, or resources to accommodate an increase of individuals at this level, with little coordination or care, that does not pose a risk to them or others."

"New York City will continue to do all it can to handle this influx," said New York mayor Eric Adams. "But this crisis is more than one city can handle. With a vacuum of leadership from border states, we need the federal government to step in."
