What Restaurant Serves the Best Loco Moco

I searched online to find out the origins of the loco moco meal. Almost all say the origins started in a restaurant in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii in 1949; what is the loco moco meal? It’s rice served with hamburger patties on top of it with eggs sunny side up with gravy poured all over it.

I haven’t searched for places that serve loco moco, but I’m sure if you asked many people on the islands, you would find different restaurants for their favorite restaurants that serve loco moco.

Here are some of the places I’ve had their loco moco meal.

1. Liliha Bakery
2. L&L Hawaiian BBQ
3. Rainbows Drive-Inn
4. Big City Diner
5. Joe’s Grill Express

Many other restaurants serve delicious loco moco. The two most recent restaurants I’ve tried were the loco moco at Joe’s Grill and Rainbows Drive-Inn. I didn’t link L&L Hawaiian BBQ because the loco moco tastes different for different locations. I can attribute that to the fact that they have other cooks for different L&L Hawaiian BBQ locations. The list above is not in any order of rank but is a list I created as I was writing this article.

Final Thought

If you ask ten people what restaurant serves the best loco moco in the islands, you’ll probably have ten different lists of restaurants. For visitors of the islands who haven’t tried the loco moco, search on Yelp for the many restaurants that serve it and try it today. It’s an island comfort food that many restaurants on the islands serve.
