More Funding Approved for City Projects

    2023-07-06

The City and County of Honolulu plan to build a bridge across the Ala Wai Canal. And, as planned, according to Hawaii News Now, the Federal Government approved $25 million to build a bridge across the Ala Wai Canal. This project was years in the planning. You will notice their current projects if you visit the City and County of Honolulu website.

Many street improvement projects need addressing that would help traffic. However, the bridge across the Ala Wai Canal seems more convenient than a pressing issue. However, it is in the planning stages, and with current federal funding, it looks like the project is on its way to completion. If past projects are any indication, it will cost more than the initial cost, and you won’t see the completion of the bridge for many more years.

Another project in the works that I found interesting is the Mobility Hub the city plans to build to connect the rail transit, the bus system, and all other modes of transportation into one convenient location. The city is all in with making the skyline accessible for everyone. With the money spent on building for the future, I hope they include restrooms in the Mobility Hubs they plan to build in their planning stages.

    Final Thoughts

The bridge across the Ala Wai Canal seems like a project that will create more question marks than answers. There are so many unanswered questions. Will it be safe for use by residents? Will there be security to help keep the area secure from unwanted solicitors? Will the bridge affect the surrounding area that is already in use? The Federal Government already approved $25 million for the project; it does seem like a done deal.

However, the Mobility Hubs is one project to pay attention to because it will affect many in the area. I came across the City and County of Honolulu website that lists all their projects. Most of the projects look like needed improvements. You might find some of them that interest you.
