    Virginia State Police investigating two separate crashes; seeks public's help in fatal wreck

    ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police (VSP) is investigating a Rockingham County crash that involved a state trooper.

    The two-vehicle crash occurred in the evening hours of July 4, along Interstate 81 at the 262-mile marker, near New Market.

    A Virginia State Police trooper was observing traffic while being positioned in a crossover on I-81. At approximately 7:35 p.m., a southbound 2011 Honda Pilot lost control and collided with the trooper's patrol vehicle. The impact caused both vehicles to overturn.

    The state trooper was transported to UVA Medical Center for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt.

    The driver of the Honda, Alice J. Feret, 77, of Blacksburg, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Sentara RMH Medical Center for treatment. She was wearing a seatbelt.

    Feret was charged with reckless driving. The crash remains under investigation.

    STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. – The Virginia State Police is seeking the public's help with a crash that occurred July 5.

    Virginia State Police responded to a three-vehicle accident in Stafford County on Wednesday. The crash occurred at 4:42 a.m. on Interstate 95 northbound, at the 136-mile marker.

    The crash involved a blue in color 2022 Freightliner tractor-trailer, a black in color 2014 Nissan Altima, and a red in color 2010 Subaru Forrester.

    VSP confirmed two fatalities and one injury as a result of the crash. The northbound travel lanes were shut down while VDOT arrived on scene to assist with the roadway closure and detour.

    By 9:30 a.m., the left and center travel lanes of I-95 northbound were opened. The right travel lane and shoulder remained closed for 5 hours.
