When it comes to Coos Bay jobs, many would say there are more available than there are people willing to work. To some, they have been trying to get work and find it hard to track down serious businesses that need help. How common are jobs in Coos Bay in 2023?

As of May 2023, the unemployment rate in Coos Bay, OR, is 3.90%. In January of 2023, the unemployment rate in the area was 6.20% so you could say things have improved nicely over the past few months.

According to the Oregon.gov website, the average minimum wage job in Coos Bay pays $13.20. This is lower than some areas of the state but with a full time job it is generally possible to get a small apartment, at the very least.

Is It Rude Not To Spend Your First Paycheck On Your Family?

Speaking of jobs, recently there was a Reddit post about a 17 year old that was getting her first paycheck. The amount was going to be $380 which is more money than the OP ever had in her life.

She agreed to put some money towards gas for her father but once her family caught wind of the paycheck coming in they asked if she would buy them all a bunch of fast food chicken for dinner. The total just for the one meal for everyone was going to be $110, which the OP wasn't willing to cover.

Now that OP didn't want to help buy the meal for everyone, she's being called selfish by her eldest sister. OP says she already earmarked some of the money and so she didn't want to spend it all on things she wasn't planning for, anyways.

OP made her post to ask if she's a bad person for not wanting to spend a big chunk of her check on one meal. She figures she's in the right, but turned to the internet to see what others think. The bulk of commenters are on OP's side, saying that her family should be encouraging her to save and spend wisely.

What do you think about sharing your first paycheck with your family? Did you have to do so with your first job or did something else interesting happy with your first paycheck?

When I was that age and had a job, I was expected to pay my car insurance and Gas...plus things like makeup and hair products. Never expected to pay for food for my family.

my parents would never have expected me to spend my money on them. They said I earned it and I can spend it anyway I see fit .
