Good Night John Boy brings 70s nostalgia to Chicago

    2023-07-28

Step back in time to the disco era at Fulton Market's new Good Night John Boy Club

(CHICAGO) Even if you're too young to have lived through it, you'll recognize the groovy decor from countless movies and TV shows. The 1970s were an iconic era, and Good Night John Boy aims to be an iconic club.

Good Night John Boy opened to the public on Friday, July 21, at 905 W. Randolph Street.

The club takes its name from The Waltons, a '70s TV show where at the end of every episode, the family all said goodnight to each other as they drifted off to sleep.

The concept comes from the Forward Hospitality Group, with four locations across the country in Ohio, Florida, and now Chicago.

Depending on how old you are, you may feel you've stepped into your grandma's basement when you walk into the ground floor area with its bright yellow walls, colorful shaggy rug, vintage couch, and, of course, a stack of Life Magazines at the entrance.

Head over to the lounge area for a sultry feel and an iconic portrait of a nude Burt Reynolds hanging over a cozy fireplace.

Spread out over two floors, the first floor features happy hour and early dinners serving retro '70s food. Fortunately, the food is simply "inspired" by the 70s, but Good Night John Boy will offer a more elevated experience than the jello, hamburger helper, and bland TV dinners of the era.

Menu items include fun offerings like a Burt Reynolds meal, French fried pizzas, and a special take on spaghettio's.

Upstairs is where the vibes head more to the Studio 54 feel of the era. The club features disco balls, a DJ booth, and an LED dance floor. The green, glittery bar offers Chicago-special cocktails, like the Wrigley-Rita.

    What are the details?

Good Night John Boy is located at 905 W. Randolph St. next to and above J.P. Graziano.

According to the club's Instagram page, Good Night John Boy is open the following days and times this week:

    • Wednesday: 5 pm to close
    • Thursday: 5 pm to close
    • Friday: 5 pm to late
    • Saturday: 5 pm to late
    • Sunday: 5 pm to close
