A car flew through the air and crashed into the second floor of a Pennsylvania home, leaving one hospitalized, officials said.

The bizarre incident occurred when a 20-year-old man driving in Decatur Township on August 6th veered off the road next to a house, according to a state police press release.

“There was an embankment right beside the house,” Paul Yocum said, a lieutenant with the Junction Fire Company — the fire department that responded to the scene. “He hit that pretty hard and it launched him up to the second floor.”

The vehicle then smashed through an upstairs room, sending splintered pieces of wood and clumps of insulation flying, according to a fire department news release.

The car, a Toyota Corolla with a Pennsylvania license plate, then came to a rest alongside a treadmill and upturned mattress. Firefighters arrived at the home within minutes of the crash.

“The owner of the house was in there,” Yocum said. “She’s an elderly lady in a wheelchair.”

The driver was also located at the scene and transported to a local hospital in unknown condition, according to FOX43. The car was then removed from the home after about three hours, according to the outlet.

Firefighters stabilized the home and assisted the homeowner in covering the hole with a tarp to prepare for an upcoming storm.

The driver appeared to be under the influence of marijuana at the time of the accident, Yocum said. The crash was believed to have been intentional, state police said, adding that charges are pending.

Decatur Township is located about 130 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
