From downtown to the burbs: Chicago Waffles opens doors in Willowbrook and Oak Park

(CHICAGO) Chicago Waffles, a breakfast and lunch cafe known for its fabulous Belgian waffles, is expanding to the suburbs.

With downtown locations in the West Loop on Madison Avenue and the South Loop on Michigan Avenue, the waffle joint recently opened restaurants in Willowbrook and Oak Park.

“We could not be more thrilled to have joined two incredible communities with our new locations in Willowbrook and Oak Park,” said Gary Kreymer, owner of Chicago Waffles, in an emailed press release. “We’ve received an overwhelmingly friendly welcome since opening, and we look forward to serving as a community hub for years to come.”

What's on the menu?

The waffles are Belgian-style and prepared on a deep-dish waffle iron with a thick batter. Although the menu offers many other options, the waffles are the true standout, made daily from scratch.

Aside from the original Belgian waffle served with powdered sugar, warm maple syrup, and whipped butter, Chicago Waffles serves a variety of unique waffle flavors.

Some standouts include red velvet waffles, green tea waffles, bacon and chicken waffles, and cheddar and short rib waffles.

Or, if you're feeling healthy, you don't have to sacrifice flavor. The Heart Healthy Waffle is a whole wheat waffle topped with vanilla yogurt, fresh strawberries, granola, and warm maple syrup.

Chicago Waffles also serves a variety of pancakes, such as the Very Berry Pancake with blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries, and topped with a chocolate caramel sauce.

The menu is extensive and also offers skillets, crepes, omelets, French toast, and traditional breakfasts.

Don't forget the cocktails

Another specialty at the restaurant is the cocktails. You can have traditional brunch beverages such as a bloody mary or mimosa.

However, there is also a variety of creative margarita flavors, or try the Chicago Waffles cafe martini with Vodka, Baileys, white Godiva, dark Godiva, Kahlua, and espresso shot.
