Would you let the police come in and arrest your partner's child if it was likely they were stealing? Today we'll be going over this in the second section because first, we're going to talk about a couple of the most common crimes that happen in Oregon state.

Common Oregon Crimes: What To Watch Out For In 2023

Shoplifting is a very common crime in Oregon in 2023 and for a good number of years in the past. It can get extremely bad in bigger cities. Just with a basic online search there was a local news article where the reporter was sitting in their vehicle in a parking lot and saw people steal all day, commonly not being chased because the crime is so common.

If you look at these Oregon crime statistics, you will see that vandalism is a very common crime. Following larceny and vandalism, the next most common crime in the area is listed as motor vehicle theft. In July of 2023, there were 5,176 crimes that the city of Portland is aware of according to the statistics provided on their official city website.

Is It Wrong That I Let The Police In To Deal With My Husband's Son?

Today, on Reddit there was a post about how a stepparent let the police in because they were there to see her husband's son. Apparently, the son came home with a new video game console and OP thought he got it from his mom since she buys him stuff all the time.

After her stepson was home for a bit the police showed up. They wanted to be let in to see if a gaming console was there because they said it was stolen. She let them in and showed them where the console was which caused her stepson to get arrested.

Once OP's husband heard about what happened, he was upset that his wife let the cops in. He said that she should've covered for him and she's not sorry because she didn't want to cover for a crime.

OP is now not even at home because she is staying with family due to her husband fighting with her. Her husband said that his son is not a criminal, so it would seem like he's choosing his son over his wife in this situation.

In the comments, interestingly enough, a lot of the top comments are about how OP is actually in the wrong for working with the police. They point out that there is no proof and there is never a good reason to let the police in without a warrant.

There is a small group of people that think OP is in the right but the vast majority think she should've handled it another way. Some point out that OP calls her stepson her "husband's son" and didn't defend him, making some think there is a lot going on between her and her family.

What do you think about this situation? Would you let the police in to deal with this or do you think that it's best to never talk to the police? I'm curious what people think that read these articles so let me know!

I personally don’t like the police involved in my business but today it was a game console ! Had she lied to the police she would’ve been committing a crime and worse she would’ve encouraged her stepson to continue next time it might have been a gun! It’s okay for the husband to say I wish you would have told the to contact me and let me deal with it. But it’s not okay for the husband to be angry about it, at least not towards his wife. She did the right thing regardless if it’s popular or well received. If you’re husband can’t /won’t respect you and your decision then it’s probably best you take some time away from each other and do a personal inventory and then a thorough analysis of your marriage it might seem like a lot over a minor issue. But this console isn’t the first thing that he stole it is just the first thing you found out about. Never cover for a liar or a thief! As they might escalate to violence, rape, murder etc… it’s not your fault! God is on your side!

She should have waited for his father to be home to deal with it
