• Redfish - Redfish are fond of mullet or live shrimp, whether accompanied by a cork or not, placed near oyster beds, flats, or canal openings. Employing fresh cut mullet as bait is also effective. Typically, I utilize two fishing rods—one rigged with live bait and the other with cut mullet.
• Speckled Sea Trout - To target speckled sea trout, consider employing topwater lures during the early morning or opt for a suspending twitchbait. Prime locations include oyster beds and the mouths of creeks. The feeding activity tends to wane as the sun climbs above the tree line, making this a dawn to dusk pursuit. Productive strategies involve fishing around bridges and dock lights using live mullet, live pinfish, live shrimp, or a preferred jig. Opting for a dark-colored jig is advisable, given the subdued lighting during this time of year.
• Flounder - Successful flounder fishing involves seeking areas with moving water and a consistent current, especially within flats or creeks. Both live mullet and chosen jigs can be effective. Maintaining proximity to the seabed is crucial when targeting flounder. Additionally, it's worth noting that flounder have been venturing into the ocean due to the commencement of the fall mullet run—an exciting season in itself. For beach fishing, employ a live mullet secured through the head, either using a jig or a 2-foot leader coupled with a swivel and barrel weight. The size of the barrel weight should be adjusted according to the prevailing current. Employ a gradual retrieval technique while reeling in the bait. Depending on the size of the mullet, allowing the flounder to fully ingest the bait before setting the hook, counting to 10, is advisable.

For optimal results when targeting these species, it's recommended to fish early in the morning or during the late evening to avoid the heat. Ideally, begin an hour before and continue an hour after the tide changes. Employ a braided line with a strength of 10-20lb, coupled with a 20-30lb 2-foot leader and your preferred choice of hook. It's important to avoid hooks smaller than 1/0. If necessary, include a split shot for additional weight.

• The onset of the Fall mullet run marks a unique and significant period in the year. If you don't already possess a cast net, now is an opportune time to acquire one and begin mastering the technique.
