I have lived on acreage since coming to Texas in 1999 from the east coast. I was in two HOA's and on the board of the 2nd. It's nothing but more power plays where, oftentimes, money talks and everyone else walks, favoritism, cronyism and nepotism reigns with the corresponding loss of individual autonomy. When I was on the board and voted for what the MAJORITY WANTED, I was threatened by a previous board member for not bowing to his desires! I called the police twice to file formal reports about his behaviors. Never again. We have enough "rulers" over almost everything we do in our daily life. Now, I will only live on acreage WITH ITS OWN WELL. I don't care if "Sam the Junkman" sets up next door--as long as he's hundreds of yards away.
