In the early hours of Friday morning (09/22/23), Upper Darby Township was the scene of a distressing incident that resulted in the hospitalization of two police officers. The incident unfolded on Terrace Avenue, specifically in the 100 block, at approximately 1 a.m., sending shockwaves through the community.

Upper Darby police officials disclosed that one of their officers had been deliberately targeted by a suspect who discharged a firearm in their direction. Thankfully, the officer escaped being struck by gunfire, but sustained injuries of another nature. In a confirmation from the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 27, it was revealed that a second officer was also harmed during the course of the incident.

Swift action was taken to ensure the well-being of the wounded officers as they were swiftly transported to Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood. Encouragingly, one of the officers has already been released from medical care, signaling a positive turn of events. The second injured officer, observed arriving at the hospital, did not exhibit signs of having suffered severe injuries.

According to an eyewitness, the second officer sustained injuries while attempting to detain the suspect. The unsettling episode took place right on the front lawn of a residence within the neighborhood.
