A tall memorial stands on the docks of Fishermen’s Terminal in Seattle honoring hundreds of lives lost at sea over the decades. It bears plaques of names, and flowers at its base that are constantly renewed. It’s a beautiful tribute to a dangerous and important occupation.

The annual Fishermen’s Fall Festival helps support the memorial and the mission of the Seattle Fishermen’s Memorial group, which includes upkeep, scholarships, and grief counseling. While the festival is a good time to honor those who are gone, it’s also a lot of fun, with various activities suitable for the whole family. It’s free to attend and proceeds from the festival help support the nonprofit.

The festival is on Saturday, September 30th, from 11 am to 6 pm.

One of the most popular features is the Salmon BBQ. Also available will be a Hot Dog BBQ and cod tacos. An adult beverage garden will be on site.

The entertainment stage will feature music, taiko drumming, a magician, and trivia with prizes.

Activities for kids include a bouncy house, building wooden boats with The Center for Wooden Boats, art projects, face painting, and a fishing pond.

A 100-year-old halibut schooner will be open for tours, and you can take a free tour of the Ship Canal on an Argosy boat. You’ll have to get a free ticket and boarding pass while you’re there for three separate tours, so check the website for details.

Also check the website for parking details, as space is limited. Fishermen’s Terminal is located at 1900 W. Nickerson Street.
