CCP Ties Exposed: DeSantis Slashes Funding for Florida Schools!

    2023-09-26

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said four private schools would no longer be eligible for public school choice subsidies due to their alleged affiliations with the Chinese Communist Party.

One of the school administrators said the organization had no connections to any "foreign or domestic" government.

An investigation by the Florida Department of Education revealed links between the CCP and the Lower and Upper Sagemont Preparatory Schools outside of Fort Lauderdale and Parke House Academy and Park Maitland School in Winter Park, close to Orlando.

Park House Academy now operates under Park Maitland South and is part of Park Maitland School.

School choice is a developing conservative movement that gives parents school vouchers for private education.

The nearly $8,5000 vouchers, which will eventually be available to all K–12 kids, some of whom may already be enrolled in private schools, were added to Florida's school choice program in March.

FDOE representative Cailey Myers emphasized that Spring Education Group is the sole owner of all schools.

The websites of the schools state that "Spring Education Group is controlled by Primavera Holdings Limited, an investment firm principally based in Hong Kong with operations in Singapore, China and the United States, that is itself owned by Chinese persons residing in Hong Kong."

According to its website, Spring Education Group is a network of 220 private schools spread throughout 19 states in the United States and several in Asia.

Mellesia Nelson, head of school at Sagemont, claimed that families were not informed before the decision and that they will work with them to ensure that students complete their education.

A request for feedback from Park Maitland Schools still needs to be met with a response.

DeSantis talks about other steps he has taken to pursue the Chinese Community Party in Florida in the statement. He has made it a topic of conversation during his campaign as a potential opponent for the Republican presidential nominee.

What's your take on the governor's decision to cut subsidies over alleged CCP affiliations?
