Libraries are amazing institutions, full of books that can take you to faraway lands, among many other places in your mind. These days, they can also take you to real-life places, close to home, for free.

Among the myriad library offerings are free passes to area museums, parks, and gardens. That includes free passes to the Seattle Aquarium and the Woodland Park Zoo. The cost of admission for a family isn’t cheap at either one of those, so this is a great deal.

If you have either a Seattle Public Library card or a King County Library card, you can take advantage of the free passes.

Each library system operates the museum pass program a little differently, so check the websites for important information. The passes are popular and are frequently fully booked, so it will take some time and planning to reserve yours. Each pass is good for admission for 2 to 4 people, depending on the institution.

If you’re finding it difficult to reserve a pass to the zoo or aquarium, keep in mind that there are other places you can go with a free pass. These include the Museum of Flight, the Museum of Pop Culture, the Burke Museum, KidsQuest Children’s Museum, Washington State Parks, and many more.
