These 10 Animals in California Have Been Named the Most Dangerous Animals in The State

    2023-10-04

Ever thought about which animals can be most dangerous in California? Since there's a lot of nature here, it's good to know about the creatures you might come across in the Golden State. Discover.hubpages made a list of the most dangerous animals you should avoid. Even though the chances of them attacking you are small, it's smart to be aware of the risks and be ready just in case. Keep reading to find out more.

    1: Black Bears

California's black bears are often brown, not black. If you see one, stay away. They're not as aggressive as grizzlies, but they can hurt humans. Usually, they'll run or pretend to attack. They might attack if they're very hungry or protecting their babies.

    2: Rattlesnakes

Rattlesnakes are the only venomous snakes in California. They usually won't bite unless they're startled or provoked. California sees about 800 rattlesnake bites a year with one or two deaths. If you get bitten, you have a good chance of surviving if you get help right away.

    3: Mountain Lions

Mountain lions, also called pumas or cougars, are dangerous animals with a powerful bite. They rarely attack humans, usually avoiding us. When they do attack, it's often because they're hungry or young. If you encounter an aggressive mountain lion, try eye contact, noise, and throwing things to scare it away.

    4: Bobcats

Bobcats are small wild cats found throughout the USA. They're solitary, avoid people, and rarely seen.

    5: Coyotes

Coyote attacks on humans are rare, but they can be dangerous. They're more of a threat to livestock, but it's wise to respect and avoid them.

    6: Wolves

Gray wolves were once in California but mostly disappeared in the early 1900s. Nowadays, wolf sightings are often of other animals, like coyotes or hybrids.

    7: Great White Sharks

Great white sharks are fearsome predators with many teeth. They rarely attack humans on purpose, usually mistaking them for prey like seals.

    8: Killer Bees

Killer bees, also known as Africanized honey bees, are a mix of Western honey bees and African honey bees.

    9: Venomous Spiders

No brown recluse spiders in California, but be cautious of venomous arachnids. Female southern black widow spiders have a potent bite but are rarely deadly thanks to antivenom.

    10: Scorpions

The scorpionscorpion with the most toxic sting is the bark scorpion. There is a small population of these living in southeastern California.

A Great white shark occasionally bites a surfer every few years even though they swim together everyday. Mountain Lion run off with and eats a child every decade or so. Rattlesnakes and killer bees do bite or sting those dumb enough to put themselves in situations a normal person would not be in. Otherwise the California wildlife is pretty sedate.

I agree with the remaining 9 most dangerous animals in California, but not the Black Bears. Many bear species are extremely dangerous, but I live where I see bears and cubs at my home, DAILY. I have lived at this mountain resort for over 50 years. No human has EVER been attacked or harmed by these beautiful animals. I’m not say not to be educated and cautious but they are nothing like Grizzlies or Polar bears. NOTHING!!! 🐻💕
