    Can You Name 10 Songs That Have 'Alabama' in the Title? Check These Out!

    From the hits recorded in Muscle Shoals to the blues of the coast, Alabama has produced some of the greatest music of the modern era. The state of Alabama has also been the inspiration for dozens of great songs. How many songs can you name that have "Alabama" in the title? Check out my list below. Do you know one that I left out?     "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Released on their second album called, "Second Helping" in 1974. Lawmakers have suggested in the past that this should be the state song of Alabama. In 2007, the title, "Sweet Home Alabama'" was chosen to be the official tagline for Alabama state tourism signs and projects.

    "Alabama" by Bishop Gunn. Released in 2018 on the album, "Natchez," the band hails from Natchez, Mississippi. Their southern roots are evident in their music which is a unique blend of soul, blues, and rock. The official video for the song (below), features comedian Theo Vaughn. The song was recorded in Alabama at FAME Studio in Muscle Shoals.



    "Alabama Nights" by Tiera Kennedy, released in 2023. Tiera is a country music singer/songwriter and a native of Alabama.

    "Alabama" by Neil Young. Although some people think the song is about the Civil Rights Movement in Alabama, Neil Young has stated that the song is more global and personal than that. In an interview, Young said that "Alabama was never meant to be specific to the state, he simply wanted a Southern state that seemed to fit what he had to say. "Actually, the song is more about a personal thing than it is about a state," he explained.



    "Old Alabama" is a song co-written and recorded by country music star, Brad Paisley, in 2011. The song features guest vocals by the band, Alabama.

    "I Hate Alabama" released in 2021 by country music artist Conner Smith. The song was written about a bad breakup he experienced in Tuscaloosa, Alabama - thus, the name of the song. He doesn't really hate the state!



    "Stars Fell On Alabama" is a jazz standard composed in 1934 with music by Frank Perkins and lyrics by Mitchell Parish. Various artists have recorded the song over the decades including Jimmy Buffett, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerand and Alabama Senator, Bobby Denton. The song was written about a spectacular event that occurred over the skies of Alabama in 1833, the Leonid meteor shower.

    "Alabama Song" also known as "Moon over Alabama", or "Whisky Bar" has been recorded by several bands and artists including The Doors and David Bowie. The song was originally a poen written in German in 1925. It was set to music in 1927 by Kurt Weill for the play Little Mahagonny.



    "Ala-Freakin-Bama" by country music artist Trace Atkins. The song was released in 2010 and is a tribute to the Heart of Dixie.

    "The Alabama Waltz" was written and recorded by legendary country music star and Alabama native, Hank Williams. Although "The Alabama Waltz" was not one of his eleven number one hit singles, it's still popular to this day.

    "Alabama Pines" was written and recorded by a native Alabama singer/songwriter and his band, Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit. Isbell hails from a small town in northwest Alabama named Greenhill which is part of the Shoals area.



    "Stars In Alabama" by Jamey Johnson was co-written with Teddy Gentry of the band Alabama. The song was released in 2008 on Johnson's "That Lonesome Song" album and was written as a tribute to his mom.

    "Bama Breeze" was recorded by the late Jimmy Buffet for his 26th studio album, "Take the Weather With You," which was released in 2006. The song was written by Mark Irwin, Josh Kear, and Chris Tompkins.



    "Merry Christmas, Alabama" ("Never Far From Home") was also recorded by the late Jimmy Buffett for his Christmas album titled, "Christmas Island," released in 1996.

    "Alabama Sky" by the band, Alabama. The song was on their album, "The Closer You Get," released in 1983.

    "Alabama Rain" was written and recorded by singer/songwriter Jim Croce. The song was featured on his album Titled, "Life and Times," and was released in 1973.



    "Goin Back To Alabama" was originally written and recorded by country artist, Cowboy Copus, in the late 1940s. It was re-recorded by country artist Kenny Rogers in 1981 and featured guest vocals by the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson.

    "The Boys From Alabama" was recorded by native Alabama band, The Drive By Truckers, for their 5th album, "The Dirty South." The song is part of a three song suite about Sheriff Buford Pusser of "Walking Tall" fame and was written by Florence native and band member, Patterson Hood.



    "Alabama Clay" was released in 1989 by Garth Brooks on his self-titled album. It was written by Ronny Scaife & Larry Cordle.

    "All In Alabama" was written and recorded by Hank Williams, Jr. It was released in 1980 on the "Habits: Old and New" album.

    "Alabama Sundown" was the third song on Dolly Parton's 1973 Album, "Bubbling Over." The song was written by Danny Morrison and David Kirby.

    "My Home's In Alabama" by the band, Alabama, founded by members from Ft. Payne. The song was released as a single in 1980 and was one of their biggest hits.



    "Alabama Getaway" was recorded by The Grateful Dead for their 11th studio album, "Go To Heaven," released in 1980. The song was the first cut on the album and was written by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter.

    "Alabama Jubilee" was originally written in the early 1900s by George L. Cobb and Jack Yellen. The song has been recorded by several artists over the last century including Roy Clark who won the Grammy Award for Best Country Instrumental Performance with his instrumental version of the song in 1981. The song is also a popular marching band song.

    "Dreamy Alabama" released in 1999 by the Atlanta Rhythm Section. The song was included on their "Eufala" album. Listen below...

    "Alabama High-Test" was released on the album, "Tennessee Pusher," in 2008 by The Old Crow Medicine Show.

    "Nothin' Sweet About Alabama" by The Lost Trailers. The song was released in 2020 on their "Silent City" album.
