In a Kansas City, Kansas neighborhood near Interstate 435 and Parallel Parkway, a concerned woman named Mary Boyd is facing a significant mail delivery issue. She has not received her mail at her residence since September 14th, and this has created considerable inconvenience for her. Mary Boyd, who is 87 years old, emphasizes the importance of receiving her mail and has sought assistance in resolving this problem.

Mary Boyd reached out to KMBC 9 Investigates after she received a letter from the post office last month. The letter cited a temporary suspension of mail delivery due to safety concerns related to a potential dog attack in the neighborhood. This suspension has left her without a reliable means of receiving her mail, prompting her to inquire about the situation and seek a resolution.

Upon contact from KMBC 9 Investigates, the postal service appeared to take some action. A letter carrier's truck was observed passing by Ms. Boyd's home twice on Monday. However, the postal service maintains that it is still unsafe for the letter carrier to deliver mail due to the presence of unrestrained dogs in the neighborhood.

Mary Boyd expressed her disagreement with this assessment, noting that she hasn't seen any loose dogs in the neighborhood for the past three weeks.

In response to the situation, a USPS spokesman provided an emailed statement, stating that they had contacted local animal control regarding the issue. However, when KMBC 9 Investigates inquired with Kansas City, Kansas animal services, they reported having no record of the USPS reaching out about the problem, despite residents informing them about loose dogs. The local animal shelter also mentioned that taking in dogs is challenging without a specific bite report due to being at capacity.

KMBC has sought clarification regarding the exact nature of the communication between USPS and local animal control and inquired when it will be deemed safe to resume home mail delivery.

For Mary Boyd, the situation is especially challenging because the post office is located miles away from her home, making it difficult for her to pick up her mail in person. The resolution of this issue is critical for her. It highlights the importance of addressing safety concerns while ensuring that essential mail services are not disrupted for residents in the area.

just last week I got my mail after almost 2 weeks without it. I feel if they can't provide people with proper mail service, then they should give out free P.O boxes, or places a big mail box by a place that they feel safe, and put mail in that.
