Construction is about to begin on the new library at the corner of Glasgow Avenue and Perkins Road! Groundbreaking ceremonies for South Branch Library are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 24 at 2210 Glasgow Avenue. The public is invited to attend this special "Gold Shovel Event" hosted by the East Baton Rouge Parish Library Board of Control.

The new library will have dedicated spaces for children, teens, and adults. The building will also include:

    • A large public meeting room that can be divided into three separate spaces
    • A conference room
    • A quiet study room
    • Five collaborative work/study rooms

There will be courtyard accessibility for each space.

Designed around a beautiful heritage live oak tree, South Branch Library will feature self-checkout kiosks as well as full-service checkout and gallery art space in the lobby. Construction on the 18,800 sq.ft. branch will take about 14 months.

A library is so much more than a place to check out books. It’s a community center where you can take classes, learn about job opportunities, check out free movies, use a computer, study with school mates, collaborate with colleagues, and so much more. The EBR Parish Library system is a positive use of our tax dollars and a great service for our citizens.
