Busy Month for Texas Anti-Drug Forces

    2023-10-27

Texas-based Federal and State anti-drug-smuggling agents have had a productive couple of days this month along the U.S. Southern border. Let's start with the crews of the aircraft pictured above:

That's a U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Air and Marine Operations (AMO) P-3 radar plane. Half of the United States' fleet of these CBP planes is based at the National Air Security Operations (NASO) Center on the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station. I've written about the Corpus Christi Center before. It's one of seven CBP/AMO air bases in Texas.

This brings us back to the P-3 radar planes which have been busy lately.

Between October 7-10, CBP P-3s helped intercept 4.8 tons of cocaine worth $127 million being smuggled by boat in three separate smuggling runs in the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean.

Meanwhile, Federal Agents were also making a significant drug bust in Texas this week:

CBP officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry discovered 151 packages containing more than 420 pounds of crystal methamphetamine hidden within the beams of a flatbed trailer. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $3,863,032.

On the state front, the crew of a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter directed U.S. Border Patrol Agents to three Mexican Citizens outfitted in camouflage they say were on a smuggling run through mountainous terrain south of Van Horn in the Big Bend Sector.

The DPS says the men were carrying 150 lbs (3 bundles) of "narcotics" (most likely marijuana) when they were apprehended this month.
