New York City's Migrants Have Their Laundry Sent Out and It Costs Millions

    2023-11-01

Because many of the shelters lack washing machines and dryers, officials claim they are forced to hire outside companies to provide laundry services for the migrants.

New York City is spending millions of dollars to do the laundry of migrants housed in local shelters. According to GB News, one such contract, for $1.1 million, was given to the Queens-based CRC Management Co. to handle emergency cleaning for residents of the shelters it manages. This information was made public on Thursday by municipal records.

Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella said, "Taxpayers are being taken to the cleaners. Here, we are providing laundry services to people who arrived here last week? That’s a lot of dough to spend on laundry. We should be spending that money elsewhere. It’s one more reason the migrant crisis has to come to an end.”

Although the exact amount the city spent on migrant laundry was unknown, it was likely in the eight figures, given that , according to the New York Post, Sodexo Laundry Service was given a $10.5 million cleaning contract earlier this year by the Health+ Hospital agency.

The Department of Homeless has four more contracts for a combined $23 million that cover staffing, security, and laundry services.

Officials from the Adams administration in charge of migrant services recently testified before the City Council, raising the possibility that laundry costs could reach tens of millions of dollars.

Queens Councilman Robert Holden said, 'The state and city are treating us like chumps. We have to do our laundry. Migrants should have to go to the laundromat like the rest of us. They should do their own laundry. We should stop taking care of the entire world with laundry service, food, and housing. Are they going to start paying for manicures and pedicures? It’s so absurd.”

Upper West Side Councilwoman Gale Brewer brought attention to differences in laundry service contracts, which range from $1.50 to $3 per pound. According to city authorities, the city's average laundry cost was about two dollars per pound.

This is exactly what they want free living on us. Causing our resources to be cut to nothing.
