Louisiana's Lainey Wilson wins top honors at this year's CMA Awards

    2023-11-09

Louisiana's own country music signer-songwriter Lainey Wilson had a night to remember at this year's Country Music Association (CMA) Awards in Nashville. Wilson went into the awards ceremony with nine nominations, the most of any other artist and will come home with five trophies, including the top award of Entertainer of the Year. She also won awards for Female Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for "Bell Bottom Country," Music Video of the Year and Musical Event of the Year for "Wait in the Truck" with fellow country artist Hardy.

Wilson grew up in the small town of Baskin, Louisiana before moving to Nashville 12 years ago to persue a music career.

During her teary acceptance speech, Wilson thanked God, her family and team. Saying, "This is all I've ever wanted to do, it’s the only thing I know how to do, We have played, I think at the end of the year we’ll have played about 186 shows this year and we‘ve worked our butts off this year and so many years in between. I've been in this town for 12 1/2 half years and it finally feels like country music is starting to love me back. I love it with my whole heart.

Wilson added that 9 must be her lucky number, "It's really, really wild. That's how many times we were nominated for a CMA this year. It's also the year that I wrote my first song. It's the year that I got my first pair of bell bottoms. It's the year that my mom and daddy brought me to Nashville for the very first time and took me to the Grand Ole Opry for the first time. It's the year that my mom and daddy brought home this horse named Tex and the horse was, it was wild and it needed breaking and they put me on the back of that thing and they said 'You better hold on, you better ride.' And I tell you what, there were times where I was crying and I wanted to get down, I'm like, 'Let me off the back of this thing.' But y'all, every time it would start bucking, I'd hold on a little bit tighter." saying that is what prepared her for this wild ride.

Last month. Wilson announced that she will be performing over 35 dates across North America on her “Country’s Cool Again Tour” starting in May of next year.
