A PREFERRED feature made into certain cars has been cancelled and fans of the popular brand behind the engine element are not happy.

Ford fans almost universally feel that the carmaker's 300 cubic-inch I-6 was one of the greatest engines the brand has ever produced in its vehicles.

The engine was available in a variety of applications for many years, Ford Authority reported.

It was a particularly adored engine among truckers as the engine was capable of towing heavy loads while also being incredibly reliable.

To this day people still seek out the old Ford I-6 for its strength and reliability.

Ford had plans for a straight-six ecoboost engine but it was officially canceled.

The car brand had the idea on the table and was working on developing a straight-six Ford EcoBoost engine.

Ford decided to cancel the entire program several years ago.

The idea was scrapped during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The plan involved basing this straight-six off of the existing 1.5L I-3 EcoBoost powerplant that’s currently standard in the Ford Escape and Ford Bronco Sport.

If Ford had moved forward with its I-6, it would have been the fourth six-cylinder powerplant in the Ford EcoBoost lineup.

The Ford EcoBoost engine family currently consists of the 2.7L V6 EcoBoost, 3.0L V6 EcoBoost and 3.5L V6 EcoBoost.

Despite Ford's canceled plans, several other automakers have moved forward with plans to launch new straight-six engines.

The carmakers that have vehicles with new six-straight includes Mazda and Stellantis.

    Mazda's all-new CX-90 and its turbocharged 3.3L inline-six-cylinder engine are eco-friendly as they're coupled with a 48-volt hybrid system.

Stellantis’ Hurricane I-6 is offered in a variety of models, including the highly anticipated 2025 Ram 1500.

An unhappy Ford fan commented on Ford Authority's report: "We have bought our last Ford."

"The EcoBoost 3L engine in our 2018 Focus burned up at 65,000 miles and has been in the shop for a month now," they went on to say.

"Now that the shop has discovered all the class action lawsuits out there, they don’t want to fix it for fear THEY will be sued when it does out again!"
