    Will EV Replace Gas Cars

    2023-11-28

I came across the state's EV Laws and incentives and noticed the state officials have lofty goals for the state. Hawaii's ACT 32, 2017 section states, "

"(a) The State shall expand strategies and mechanisms to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions statewide through the reduction of energy use, adoption of renewable energy, and control of air pollution among all agencies, departments, industries, and sectors, including transportation."

Electric vehicles are one option to achieve the state's goals for clean energy. I notice some electric vehicles on the road, such as Tesla's, but I haven't seen much. There are two factors that people need to take into account when purchasing an electric vehicle.

The first factor is cost. A gasoline vehicle is still cheaper. Tesla's (model X, 3, Y) price ranges from $42,990 to $119,990. The second factor is how many charging stations are there in the area. I haven't seen a single electric car charger in my area since I returned home. From the consumer standpoint, I would consider these two factors if I purchase an electric vehicle.

But a more important factor is whether the current electric grid is enough to support the increase in electric vehicle owners. I don't own an electric vehicle because of the cost, but if I owned an electric vehicle, I would like to know if I could charge my car somewhere and if the cost would be reasonable.

    Final Thoughts

Would you purchase an electric vehicle to support Hawaii ACT 32, 2017?
