    Oh, Fudge! Fudge Recall at Christmas

    Just in time for Christmas, the FDA has issued a recall for several flavors of fudge made by "Valley View Candies, based in Edgewood, Iowa. The recall is for an unlisted major allergen not listed on the ingredients.

    The company has issued a voluntary recall of all its fudge products, which are packaged in 8-ounce clear, plastic, clam-shell containers, the flavors include Peanut Butter Fudge, Maple Nut Fudge, Chocolate Fudge, and Chocolate Walnut Fudge.

    The recall is precautionary, as individuals with sensitivity to eggs could experience serious or even life-threatening allergic reactions. The FDA did not say how the allergen was discovered in the products.

    The affected fudge items were distributed in several Iowa counties, including Buchanan, Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque, Fayette, Johnson, Jones, and Linn.
    Stores where the product was distributed includes: "Hy-Vee, Dollar Fresh, Otter Creek Store, Edgewood Locker, Benders, By the Spoonful, Country View Dairy, and Unionland Feeds."

    No illnesses have so far been reported, however, reaction can be swift for allergic individuals. Consumers are advised they can return the products to the store of purchase for a full refund.

    Several other food and drink products have recently been recalled for various contaminants as well, including Coca Cola, Sprite and Fanta Orange sodas. A New York-based distribution company is recalling packs of Himalayan pain relief tea which was found to contain the unlisted drugs Diclofenac and Dexamethasone. The recall for Canteloupe continues as well.

    Quaker Oats granola bars also made the list. More information on recalled products can be found on the FDA website.
