Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a law criminalizing illegal entry into the state, escalating tensions with the Biden administration over immigration policies. The legislation aims to counteract what Abbott deems President Biden's negligence in addressing illegal entry, intending to stem the flow of migrants into Texas.

The new law, which became effective in March, broadens the definition of misdemeanour by penalizing entry into Texas from any foreign country outside lawful ports. This move amplifies state efforts to deter migrant crossings, following Abbott's prior attempts such as installing barriers and razor wire along the border, which faced legal challenges.

In response, the White House criticized the law, labelling it extreme and emphasizing the federal government's responsibility in immigration matters. Texas Democrats and Hispanic Caucus members urged the Justice Department to intervene, branding the law as profoundly anti-immigrant.

Abbott's strategies, including busing migrants to various cities, underscore Texas's aggressive stance on immigration enforcement. However, previous attempts, like installing barriers, faced legal setbacks, indicating potential challenges ahead for the new law's enforcement.

If our Government won't follow immigration laws, then a Governor should be able to do what he has to do.
