Police Investigating into Threats Against the Justices of the Colorado Supreme Court

    2023-12-27

Tuesday, Denver police said they were looking into crimes that were aimed at Colorado's Supreme Court justices after the court's decision to take former President Donald Trump off the state's primary vote.

In an email, the Denver Police Department said, "We are currently looking into incidents aimed at Colorado Supreme Court justices and will continue to work with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to thoroughly investigate any reports of threats or harassment."

The cops wouldn't say much about what happened because they said there were still safety concerns and the investigation was still going on. There were more police patrols around the homes of judges. Last Thursday, cops were called to a justice's home for what seemed to be a hoax. The department said that event was also being looked into.

The FBI said it was helping the probe along with the local police. "We will vigorously pursue investigations of any threat or use of violence committed by someone who uses extremist views to justify their actions, regardless of motivation," a statement from the Denver FBI said.

The events happened after the Colorado Supreme Court said last week that Donald Trump can't run for president in Colorado. The court said that Trump has to follow the Insurrection Clause of the U.S. Constitution. This clause says that someone who leads an uprising cannot be president.

The case is likely to be taken to the U.S. Supreme Court for review. The court in Colorado said that a decision had to be made by January 5, which is when the state prints its primary ballots for the 2024 race.
