FITCHBURG - Around 1:09 a.m. this morning, officers from the Fitchburg Police Department responded to the parking lot of Monkeyshines Bar & Grill, 6209 McKee Road, for a report of a person shot. The apparent victim left the scene before officers arrived.

Officers learned a fight broke out in the parking lot, and at least one gunshot was fired. Evidence collected at the scene confirmed at least one shot was fired. One round appears to have struck the building.

No one has come forward to report they were struck by the gunfire and no other injuries have been reported. Staff at the bar immediately locked the doors to keep the many patrons inside safe, as reported by Lt. Edward Hartwick

Personnel from the Madison Police Department, Verona Police Department, and the Dane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting scene to assist with scene security and the investigation. The investigation remains open and active.
