Derek Rosa, a 13-year-old Florida honors student, confessed to the brutal stabbing of his mother, Irina Garcia, 39, in a chilling police interrogation video.

Despite his initial not guilty plea, Rosa admitted to killing his mother, who was sleeping next to her two-week-old baby, by stabbing her over 40 times. The video footage shows Rosa nodding affirmatively when asked by a Hialeah Police Department detective if he committed the murder. He described the knife used, a large kitchen knife with a purple handle, and pointed to his neck when asked where he stabbed his mother.

Rosa was also seen in a separate baby camera footage standing over his sleeping mother before the attack. After the murder, he allegedly sent a selfie to a friend, showing his bloodied hands. The Miami-Dade Metro West detention center is holding Rosa until his unscheduled trial, with no bail granted. The judge commented on Rosa's harsh detention conditions but did not find a violation of constitutional rights.

Additional evidence from Rosa's internet activity revealed searches about killing methods and knife capabilities. The defense's motion to keep Rosa in juvenile detention due to the conditions in the adult jail was rejected. Rosa will receive educational lessons while in custody, and he is under constant security detail.
