California Boy Kill 10-year-old Fellow With Stolen Gun Found in Dad's Car

    2024-01-01

Two people, a 53-year-old man and his 10-year-old son, were arrested on Sunday after the son killed another 10-year-old with a gun that he stole from his father's car.

The attack took place in Foothill Farms on Saturday afternoon after the man sent his son to get cigarettes from his car, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.

After that, the boy "took a gun from inside the vehicle and bragged that his father had a gun," the sheriff's office said in a statement Sunday. "He then proceeded to shoot the victim once and ran into a nearby apartment."

The sheriff's office said that deputies found the victim bleeding from the head and neck and did CPR and other "life-saving efforts" until first responders from the Sacramento Metro Fire Department came. It was rushed to the hospital, but the child was already dead when they got there.

The potential shooter's 53-year-old father, Arkete Davis, is thought to have tried to get rid of the gun by putting it in a trash can, according to the sheriff's office. According to the police, the gun was stolen.

KCRA, an NBC station in Sacramento, reported that the victim's family named him Keith "KJ" Frierson. The teen suspect in the shooting was not named because he is still a minor. The sheriff's office said he was arrested on suspicion of murder.

According to inmate records, his father was caught and booked on suspicion of having a gun while a felon, storing a gun illegally, driving with a stolen gun that was loaded, putting a child in danger, and being an accomplice to a crime after the fact.

It was not clear if the suspects have a lawyer for the case. A request for comment was sent to the Sacramento County Public Defender's Office, but they did not reply right away. Inmate records show that Davis was being held without bond of $500,000. The sheriff's office said he was supposed to go to court on Wednesday.

The boy was being held at the Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility, according to the sheriff's office, and his next court date was not yet scheduled.

In Sacramento County, kids must be charged within 48 working hours of being arrested or taken into custody. Bail is not used, but kids can be let go with their parents or legal guardians.
