NYC Woman Settles Lawsuit After Being Implanted with Wrong Embryos and Losing Twins

    2024-01-01
    • A Korean-American couple from Queens, expecting twin girls, were shocked to deliver Caucasian twin boys due to a mix-up at Cha Fertility Clinic.
    • Six weeks post-delivery, the mother had to hand over both boys to their biological parents, following a court order.
    • The birth couple, identified as YZ and AP, settled their lawsuit with Cha Fertility Clinic as the boys approached their fourth birthday.

In a harrowing incident, a Korean-American couple from Queens, New York, experienced a devastating mishap at Cha Fertility Clinic in Southern California.

The couple, identified in court documents as YZ and AP, had spent $100,000 and years of effort to conceive. They were expecting twin girls but, to their shock, delivered two Caucasian boys - each from different biological parents. This mix-up only came to light in the delivery room, leaving the couple heartbroken.

Tragically, six weeks after the birth, a court mandated that the new mother hand over the boys to their natural mothers. Adding to the complexity, one of the biological mothers had also been implanted with another woman's embryo. The clinic co-owners, Joshua Berger and Simon Hong, were involved in this mix-up.

The lawsuit filed by AP and YZ against the fertility clinic claimed that they suffered "permanent emotional injuries." The case was eventually settled as the twin boys neared their fourth birthday. The details of the settlement remain undisclosed.

This case highlights not only the emotional turmoil faced by the couple but also the potential risks and complications in fertility treatments. The involved parties, including other affected families, faced immense emotional challenges throughout this ordeal.
