As migrants continue to cross the southern border of Texas, the impact is felt further north in the State. Since President Joe Biden implemented the CBP One app for migrants to legally enter the country this year, over 360,000 migrants successfully made their appointment according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Migrants don’t stay in border cities of El Paso, Del Rio, and other locations, they move to new locations. Dallas has been a hub for some migrants as they move further north to New York City or other destinations.

Oak Lawn United Methodist Church is a welcome center and has assisted migrants as they make their transition.

Oak Lawn United Methodist Church Associate Pastor Isabel Marquez said according to AOL:

"Everybody here in Dallas, as far as we know, they are over capacity. There is no other way to receive people."

Earlier last year, the church helped migrants as migrants passed through the Dallas area.

Pastor Marquez was part of the process and said according to NBC Dallas:

"Gathering together information on our volunteers and seeing how many people that we can get as volunteers because we are going to need as many as we can get."

According to NBC Dallas, approximately three migrant buses make their way to this area. Migrants then wait for their immigration court date which is between two weeks to five years.

Through the end of November 2023, Border Patrol has processed over 297,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans who arrived lawfully.

The number of migrants arriving at the end of 2023 has not slowed down.
