New York City Mayor Adams Takes Texas Migrant Issue To Other States

Last week, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced tighter restrictions for migrant buses arriving there. A few days later, buses were dropping migrants off in New Jersey, and they made their way to New York City. 

This angered Mayor Adams who wants neighboring states to prevent migrant buses from arriving according to CBS News. 

Mayor Adams said according to NY Daily News:

“Everyone that has that train line that leads into the city, everyone in the municipalities around us — they should do the same (executive order).” 

“We’re dealing with a person who just wants to disrupt. This is not about raising attention on an issue. This is a mean-spirited way of using people and disrupting municipalities … We’re dealing with a bully right now.” 

Mayor Adams was referring to Governor Abbott. 

New York Governor Kathy Hochul agreed with Mayor Adams for neighboring states to limit migrants arriving. 

Governor Hochul said at a news conference according to NY Daily News:

“I absolutely support what the mayor did — I thought it made sense.”

“It may be necessary for our neighboring states to do the same. If the governor of Texas is going to spend his nights trying to thwart our rules in our city, then we’ll find other ways to address it.”

Governor Abbott wrote on X, formerly Twitter:

"Texas has transported over 95,000 migrants to sanctuary cities. Sanctuary cities like NYC & Chicago have seen only a FRACTION of what overwhelmed Texas border towns face daily." 

"We will continue our transportation mission until Biden reverses course on his open border policies."

Renae Eze, Governor Abbott’s spokesperson said according to Fox News:

"Instead of attacking Texas’ efforts to provide relief to our overwhelmed border communities, these Democrat mayors should call on their party leader to finally do his job and secure the border—something he continues refusing to do." 

According to a press release, Governor Abbott has bused over 33,600 migrants to New York City from August 2022.
