    2024-01-05

Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said Wednesday that on January 2, police investigating a possible innkeeper fraud on Rodgers Drive arrested a person they thought might have stolen someone else's name.

Wasson said that Cynthia Barnett, 32, of Bar Nunn was arrested on several charges, including identity theft and drug possession, after police were told she hadn't paid for her room at the Budget Inn at 6:10 p.m.

Wasson says that while Barnett was talking to police, she gave them the date of birth, driver's license number, and social security number of a 34-year-old woman, along with a blank check that had that person's information on it.

According to Wasson, the 34-year-old woman said that her checks had been stolen during a recent move. Barnett was then charged with identity theft.

Barnett was charged with both crime and misdemeanor drug possession after police found.Wasson said that she had 4 grams of liquid methamphetamine and 1.4 grams of crystal meth in her hotel room.
