    Free Winter Fun in Charlotte, Really!

    Are you looking for a few free and cheap ideas to fill your winter calendar? Here we are in January and some of us may be feeling the weight of slightly higher than normal spending over the holidays. But, does that mean we can't have fun with the kids this January? Heck no. We just have to go find those awesome free adventures. They are out there, and we've done all the work pulling them together for you.

    1. Free Kids Activties

    Ok, if you have kids and you're not taking advantage of the free kids' activities at local stores, you're missing out. These free crafts and workshops are a totally amazing way to get some quality time together, learn something new, and keep your money in your wallet.

    January 6th, 2024 Home Depot Free Kids Workshop: Build a Delivery Truck

    January 13th, 2024: Make a Sticker Arctic Snowglobe at JC Penney Kids Zone

    January 20th, 2024: Lowes Home Improvement Kids Workshop: Build a DIY Toolbox

    2. Go Sledding

    I know there's probably no snow on the ground. But that's ok. Plan a free day trip and head up to one of these nearby mountain towns for some FREE sledding.

    3. Enjoy the Outdoors and Learn Something New

    A visit to the Reed Gold Mine is always free, unless you want to try panning for gold, that costs $3. But for no money at all you can enjoy the indoor exhibits explaining the history of the property and take a self-guided tour through the mine itself. You'll also enjoy the outdoor trails to get to the mine and see the above-ground outdoor exhibits. We visited Reed Gold Mine and really enjoyed our time there.

    4. Visit Quest at Latta Nature Preserve

    You'll find a full schedule with lots and lots of free hikes, tours, classes and experiences at the new Quest at Latta Nature Preserve. In January you'll find everything from story time for littles, to lunchtime hikes for adults. See the Quest at Latta Nature Preserve schedule.

    Of course, you can always enjoy the trails at Quest on your own for free!
