California New Law Banning Weapons in Most Public Places

    2024-01-08

A new law in California that says people can't carry guns in most public places was again stopped from going into effect on Saturday because of a court case that is still going on.

A panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals lifted a brief stay on a lower court's order that was stopping the law from going into effect. A different panel of the 9th Circuit put the rule on hold, but it still went into effect on January 1.

Saturday's decision upholds a decision made by U.S. District Judge Cormac Carney on December 20 that blocked the bill. Carney said it goes against the Second Amendment and that gun rights groups would probably be able to show it is illegal.

The law, which was passed by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, says that people can't carry guns in 26 different places, such as public parks and playgrounds, churches, banks, and zoos. The rule applies even if a person has a permit to carry a gun hidden.

Newsom has made a name for himself as an expert on gun control, and he says he will keep working for tighter rules. His office said in a statement after Saturday's decision that "this dangerous decision puts the lives of Californians on the line."

"The politicians' plan to get around the Second Amendment has been stopped for now," said the head of the California Rifle and Pistol Association, which had sued to stop the law.

All this fighting over a law that has absolutely no effect on criminals.

I find it funny that they called him a gun control expert. The only thing he’s an expert at is ruining the state of California.
