    As we get closer to Mardi Gras, the event calendar fills with parades, balls, and fund-raisers. We celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s, birthday on Monday, January, 15, so this week's calendar will cover events happening on that day.

    Here's what to look forward to this weekend.

    Krewe of Sobek Mardi Gras Parade - Shreveport - January 13

    Beginning at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 13, the Krewe of Sobek Parade starts and ends at the Louisiana State Fairgrounds.

    This year's theme is: "Sobek Rides the Orient Express!"

    Weenie Spaghetti Cookoff Festival - Houma - January 13

    7856 W. Main Street

    Gates open at 11:00 AM for the 2024 Weenie Spaghetti Cookoff Festival. A $10 entry fee gains access to the weenie spaghetti cookoff, a chili cookoff, and a Bloody Mary contest. Music provided by The Cajun Music Preservation Society and Nonc Nu & The Wild Matous.

    Martin Luther King Jr. Parade - Lake Charles - January 15

    Sponsored by KZWA 104.9 FM, the parade begins at 10:00 AM.

    Krewe of Harambee MLK Day Parade - Shreveport - January 15

    The Krewe of Harambee MLK Day Mardi Gras Parade rolls through downtown Shreveport beginning at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 15.

    This year's theme is: "Harambee Presents...Soul Train!"

    C & B Community Organization Annual MLK Celebration - DeRidder - January 15

    Deridder City Hall is the location for the annual MLK celebration. There will be a car show at 10:00 AM in the city hall parking lot by the railroad tracks, followed by the celebration including speakers at noon. A march to Norris Memorial Church immediately follows the ceremony. Free food and drinks will be served.

    Leesville MLK Parade and Rally - Leesville - January 15

    1003 N. Gladys Street

    The festivities begin at 9:00 AM at the Leesville Martin Luther King Community Center.

    Annual R.E.A.L. Martin Luther King, Jr., March and Commemorative Parade - New Orleans - January 15

    Starting at A.L. Davis Park, LaSalle Street and Third Street, the parade begins at 10:00 AM.

    Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day Event - Baker - January 15

    3325 Groom Road

    The City of Baker's annual MLK event begins at 11:00 AM at the Baker Municipal Center.
