    • Seth Bryan Carnes, 45, arrested and charged with capital murder in the deaths of his parents, both 74.
    • Alleged motive for the shootings was Seth's belief that his mother tried to administer a sleeping pill against his will.
    • Alfred Carnes, a retired judge, and Susan Carnes, a retired teacher, were prominent community figures.

In a tragic incident, a retired Texas judge and his wife, both aged 74, were fatally shot by their son, Seth Bryan Carnes, 45.

Seth was charged with capital murder following the deaths of his parents, Alfred 'Burt' Carnes and Susan H. Carnes. The shooting occurred in their home in Georgetown, Texas.

The incident unfolded when Seth Carnes, living in a converted garage at his parents' home, reportedly resisted his mother's attempt to give him a sleeping pill. According to the police, Seth admitted to the double murder, stating he didn't want to take the pill. He allegedly used a Remington 870 shotgun, found near Alfred's body, to carry out the shootings. The bodies of Alfred and Susan Carnes were discovered by the police in different areas of the house, with gunshot wounds.

Seth's daughter was the one who alerted the authorities. Upon their arrival, the officers found Seth coming out of the house, immediately confessing to the killings. The Williamson County Sheriff's Office is conducting a detailed investigation into the murders.

Alfred Carnes had a distinguished career as a District Judge, retiring in 2013 after 24 years of service. He hailed from a family with a long history in law enforcement. Susan Carnes, remembered as a pillar of the community, was a retired elementary school teacher. The couple's death has shocked the local community, with many mourning the loss of such respected individuals. Seth Carnes is currently held in Williamson County Jail without bond. In Texas, capital murder can result in life imprisonment or the death penalty.
