ERCOT Issues a Winter Weather Warning For North Texas

If you live in Texas, you should know who the Electric Reliability Council of Texas better known as ERCOT. For the past few years, Texas has had electrical power issues in the cold winter and the summer heat. ERCOT manages the flow of electricity to 26 million Texans or 90% of the State’s electrical load.

ERCOT is trying to avoid a disaster in February 2021 when power shut off in a bad winter storm where residents were without power and died. The Texas Tribune said 246 Texans died across 77 counties in Winter Storm Uri which is one of the State’s worst winter storms.

This winter, ERCOT wants to avoid that and they issued a winter weather warning which includes Dallas from January 15 to 17.

ERCOT said in a statement according to WFAA ABC 8:

"ERCOT continues to monitor conditions closely and will deploy all available tools to manage the grid, continuing a reliability-first approach to operations."

The organization continues to inspect generation and transition facilities to ensure they are compliant with State guidelines.

Fox 4 News encourages residents to cover their pipes before this weekend as temperatures drop. By Monday on Martine Luther King Day, the weather could dop down to the teens.
