George County Sheriff's Deputy Jeremy Malone, a 44-year-old husband and father of three daughters, was tragically killed on January 4 outside a Dollar General store in Lucedale, Mississippi. The incident occurred around 5:15 pm when Malone approached the vehicle of Ricky Powell, 43. Powell, a habitual criminal, shot Malone and then fled the scene, leading authorities on a chase through Greene and Perry Counties before being fatally shot by the police.

Malone's death has deeply affected the community. He was remembered as a man who loved his family and law enforcement. Terry Rogers, a local jail warden, expressed the community's devastation. Sheriff Mitchell Mixon described Malone as "larger than life," dedicating his life to his family and career.
