Elevated Fire Danger Conditions for Several NC Counties

There is an elevated fire danger for the following NC Counties: Beaufort, Duplin, Greene, Inland Onslow, Jones, Lenoir, Mainland Dare, MainlandHyde, Martin, Northern Craven, Pamlico, Pitt, Southern, Craven, Tyrrell and Washington.

Take precautions, and avoid lighting a fire in these areas today if possible.

The National Weather Service has issued this statement:

"ELEVATED FIRE DANGER CONDITIONS THROUGH THIS EVENING...

Strong mixing this afternoon has led to wind gusts 25 to 30 mph along with Relative Humidity values dropping below 25 percent.

The ground remains relatively moist from recent rainfall, but finer fuels have likely dried enough to produce an elevated risk for fire danger."
