California to Spend $3.1B on Health Care for Illegal Immigrants

California plans to cover health care for illegal immigrants in 2024. The coverage will not cost the immigrant anything as California taxpayers will cover their bill.

Fox News reported California will support close to 700,000 illegal immigrants who are aged between 26 to 49 years old as of January 1. 

This comes out to paying $4,058 in medical coverage from California’s general fund. According to the Daily Mail, California will pay close to $3.1 billion to provide coverage for illegal immigrants. 

California already has a high cost of living. This new act will only increase costs at the taxpayer’s expense. Some members of Congress don’t think that’s a problem. 

ABC News reported the Republican caucus wrote last year:

"Medi-Cal is already strained by serving 14.6 million Californians – more than a third of the state's population. Adding 764,000 more individuals to the system will certainly exacerbate current provider access problems."

California becomes the first state to provide health care coverage to illegal immigrants. 

Governor Newsom’s office said according to ABC News:

“In California, we believe everyone deserves access to quality, affordable health care coverage – regardless of income or immigration status.” 

“Through this expansion, we’re making sure families and communities across California are healthier, stronger, and able to get the care they need when they need it.”

In addition, California will cover sex changes for immigrants who desire medical support. 

In a memo dated May 2022 that was reported by the Daily Caller Foundation, Fox News said:

"Gender affirming care is a covered Medi-Cal benefit when medically necessary. Requests for gender affirming care should be from specialists experienced in providing culturally competent care to transgender and gender diverse individuals and should use nationally recognized guidelines."

Last year, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said over 2.4 million migrants crossed the southern border in a Fox News interview.
