Governor Greg Abbott ran for his third term in office in 2022 and already has set a new fundraising record with $25 million.

Billionaire Jeff Yass is a Republican mega-donor and donated $6 million to help Abbott and the upcoming 2024 election. The money will help Governor Abbott flip 21 GOP House incumbents who voted to take education savings accounts in last year’s education bill.

Yass is a Pennsylvania resident who made his money in investments and is co-owner of Susquehanna International Group.

In October last year, Yass gave Abbott $250,000 and then $6 million in December according to Kut.org. Yass has been in favor of school choice.

Governor Abbott had raised $19 million, $13 million was in the main political account and he has $6 million in another account.

Abbott campaign manager Kim Snyder said in a statement according to The Texas Tribune:

“With the primary elections just around the corner, Governor Abbott has the resources needed to back strong conservative candidates who support his bold agenda to keep Texas the greatest state in the nation, including expanding school choice for all Texas families and students.”

According to The Texan, Snyder said:

“Texans recognize Governor Abbott’s unwavering dedication to our great state, and this record-breaking fundraising effort is a testament to the trust and confidence voters have in his leadership.”

Last September, Governor Abbott called for a special session with Texas policymakers, and after ‌four sessions, the education bill still didn’t pass. Taxpayer money would fund a student’s private school education.

Here are more details on the school voucher:

Do you think Governor Abbott will call for a fifth special session this year?
