Critically-acclaimed rapper Vince Staples will star as himself in the upcoming Netflix original comedy series The Vince Staples Show.

Netflix announced that the five-episode debut season will be released on February 15 and shared the series' first trailer on social media.

Set in Long Beach, California, the fictional dramedy depicts the chaos of being famous and is loosely inspired by the life of Staples.

Launching in February, The Vince Staples Show stars Staples as, well, Vince Staples," Netflix's Tudum wrote. "In the limited comedic series, he’s thrust into adventures while navigating life as a kind of famous, kind of rich, kind of criminal (but not really) rapper. Unfortunately, anything that can go wrong usually does."
Strap in and prepare for foot races and high-speed chases through the streets of Long Beach, CA, in the brand-new scripted comedy from the mind of rapper, actor, and producer Vince Staples."

The trailer provides a glimpse of the eventful life of Staples as he reflects on his day, which involved visiting an amusement park, attending a family barbecue, executing a bank heist, and meeting with award-winning artist Rick Ross.

Black-ish creator Kenya Barris, Ian Edelman, Maurice Williams, Corey Smyth and William Stefan Smith executive produced the series alongside Staples. The cast also includes Vanessa Bell Calloway and Andrea Ellsworth, with Naté Jones, Arturo Castro, Scott MacArthur, Bryan Greenberg and Myles Bullock showing out as guest stars.

Staples has released four studio albums -- Summertime 06, Big Fish Theory, FM! and his self-titled album in July 2021 -- but this will be his first venture as a lead actor.

The California native has a supporting role in Quinta Brunson's award-winning series Abbott Elementary and recently tried his hand as an interviewer with Paris Texas.

Staples often references his upbringing in Ramona Park in his music, so it will be interesting to see his hometown of Long Beach through the lens of his show.

When the project was first announced, Netflix Head of Comedy Tracey Pakosta said, “It’s our mission to work with the best artists in the world. Vince has already established himself as one of the most talented young musicians today and we’re really excited about how his sensibility – and sense of humor – will translate into a unique comedy series.”
