The National Weather Service has once again issued a winter weather advisory for Northern Virginia, forewarning residents of an impending snowfall set to arrive late tonight. As we dust off our winter gear and prepare for the inevitable, the advisory covers a significant portion of the region, including Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Fauquier, and Stafford.

Forecasters predict accumulations ranging from one to three inches for the immediate D.C. metro area. However, the real concern lies in the impact on Friday morning's rush hour. The steadiest snowfall is anticipated between 6 a.m. and noon, posing potential challenges for commuters navigating through the wintry conditions.

In addition to the snow, residents should brace themselves for gusty winds sweeping through the area on Friday afternoon. The National Weather Service warns of sustained winds ranging from 20 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph through Saturday. These strong winds bring with them the risk of power outages, adding an extra layer of concern for those in the affected areas.

The winter weather advisory is set to be in effect from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, encompassing a significant portion of the day. This extended timeframe underlines the seriousness of the weather conditions and emphasizes the need for residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions.

As the region gears up for another round of winter weather, it's essential for individuals to stay updated on the latest forecasts, road conditions, and safety recommendations. Whether it's adjusting travel plans, stocking up on essentials, or preparing for possible power outages, being proactive in the face of these weather challenges can help mitigate potential risks and ensure a safer experience during this snowy episode in Northern Virginia.
