DFW Weather: Another Cold Front Late Thursday

    2024-01-18

A strong cold front arriving late Thursday will bring cold arctic air back to North Texas through the remainder of the work week. National Weather Service (NWS) Forecasters expect morning low temperatures in the 20s with wind chills in the teens and single digits.

After a strong cold front on Thursday, cold temperatures will stick around into the weekend. Lows Friday and Saturday night will be in the teens and 20s. Temperatures should warm above freezing each afternoon.

However, there continues to be a low to medium chance some across North Texas remain below freezing all afternoon Friday, with the best chances near the Red River.

The NWS forecasts a 20% chance of freezing rain across parts of North Texas Sunday night into Monday morning. If freezing rain occurs, minimal impacts are expected due to temperatures rising above freezing by mid-morning and additional rain melting any ice that accumulates overnight.

We will transition from a cold and dry pattern this weekend to a mild and rainy pattern next week. High temperatures will go from the 30s on Sunday to the 40s on Monday to the 60s for the rest of the week. Slightly cooler weather is expected on Friday of next week.

The National Weather Service forecasts most of North Texas receiving between 1.25-2.25" of rain between Sunday night and Friday, higher to the southeast and lower to the northwest. NWS Forecasters say they are confident that the highest rain totals will remain near the Gulf Coast with the highest totals locally being across eastern Central Texas. Average totals in this region are around 3- 4".
