On Friday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced he was going to India to lead an economic development mission. Abbott previously announced the strong relationship Texas has with India. On January 19, Governor Abbott said he’ll lead the mission to India that is organized by the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office and the Texas Economic Development Corporation. The Texas delegation will depart today, January 19, and return on January 28.

Governor Abbott said according to a press release according to OA Online:

“As the eighth-largest economy in the world and home to a highly skilled and growing workforce, Texas offers endless opportunities for business expansion and investment from our global partners.”
“Texas is America’s—and the world’s—premier economic destination because of our dedication to cultivating a business-friendly environment where companies have the freedom and resources they need to thrive. There is great potential for us to expand critical industry and trade partnerships with India. I look forward to leading this economic development mission as we share the story and spirit of Texas’ longtime economic success and ingenuity with the people of India.”

Last November, Governor Abbott highlighted some achievements with India. Abbott said the U.S. India Chamber of Commerce (USICOC) DFW Annual Awards Banquet in Dallas according to a press release:

"We believe in helping to transform and elevate the lives of all Texans, while at the same time making sure that we provide our growing number of employers the high-skilled, well-trained employees they need and deserve."
"This past year, Texas had a record amount of revenue, and because of you, Texas had an all-time record budget surplus. It was the largest budget surplus not just in the history of Texas, but the largest state budget surplus in the United States of America. The budget surplus doesn't belong to the legislature. It doesn't belong to the State of Texas or the Governor. That money belongs to you, the taxpayer. So we are returning it to you with the largest property tax cut ever in the history of our state."

This is the second trip Governor Abbott is making to India. He last visited the country in 2018. He visited the tech companies of Wipro, Infosys, and Mahindra.

India does $20 billion in trade with Texas which is one of the largest trade partners.

Did you realize Texas had a strong trade relationship with India?

Our electric grid sucks, we are having water issues, our schools are operating in the red, and women can't get proper reproductive care, but it's good for business. We know where abbotts priorities are.
