    Facts About Paul Hogan

    2024-01-22

We haven't seen much of Crocodile Dundee for a while.

Paul Hogan burst upon the American scene in the 1980s with his movie, Crocodile Dundee. Hogan had made a name for himself in comedy in Australia during the 1970s, but his fame quickly escalated after the 1986 release of his signature work. While Paul had some other projects, including a couple of sequels to Crocodile Dundee he definitely peaked with the original Dundee movie.

I knew he eventually married his costar in the Dundee movies and make a few other lesser films, but beyond that, I didn’t know much about him. So here are some things you might not have known about Paul Hogan.

1: Hogan got his start in TV on a show that had judges ridiculing performers.

Hogan got on the show as an alleged tap dancer knife thrower, but actually used the opportunity to ridiculer the judges. That would be great on these American talent shows. Maybe we need something like, America has Snark.

2: Between 1973 and 1984 Hogan had his own sketch comedy show called, “The Paul Hogan Show.

The show ran for a total of 60 episodes. That doesn’t sound like a grueling schedule. He was like the Johnny Carson of Australia.

3: Paul was used in Winfield cigarette ads during the 1970s.

Hogan was in print and billboard ads and was dressed in a dinner suit. The ads had the tagline, “Anyhow, have a Winfield.” It was like cigarettes cause cancer, “Anyhow, have a Winfield.”

4: During the 80s Hogan did some commercials promoting tourism in Australia.

The term “shrimp on the barbie” gained popularity from that campaign. But really, is one shrimp going to help that much?

5: Hogan has been married three times, twice to his first wife, Noelene Edwards.

He and Noelene first married in 1958, divorced in 1981 and remarried in 1982. They divorced again in 1988. The second divorce seems to have taken.

6: For a while, he had tax issues in Australia. They were resolved in 2012.

No doubt when that happened it was a “G’day for Hogan.

7: He changed his place of birth.

Well, he actually lied about it early in his career. Early on, he said he was born in Lightning Ridge, New South Wales. Actually, he was born in Sydney, Australia. He lied about it to seem more interesting. After a while, the truth about Hogan became interesting, so he didn’t need to lie.

8: His second wife, Linda Kozlowski, and Hogan divorced in 2014.

Linda is reportedly living in Morrocco with her second husband. That’s quite a walkabout.

9: Hogan went on standup comedy tours in Australia in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

At a certain point, I think a guy has to convert to sit down comedy.

10: Hogan’s net worth has been estimated at $20 million.

At one time it was estimated to be more than $75 million, but a messy divorce and tax settlement whittled it down quite a bit. Well, at least he can still afford to hire some help around the house as needed.
