Gloucester County Schools Superintendent Dr. Anthony Vladu issued a notice last Friday informing families and staff about a racist incident at Peasley Middle School.

According to Vladu, on January 19, school administrators were notified of “a deeply concerning incident at Peasley Middle School involving racist graffiti on a 6th-grade bathroom stall, depicting a threatening message toward the African American community.”

According to a report from Wavy 10, which showed redacted images from Gloucester Sheriff’s Office, the message said , “I hate [N-word]” and “[N-word] need to die.”

The statement from Dr. Vladu also stated,

“Gloucester County Public Schools unequivocally condemns discrimination of any kind. We are actively collaborating with the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office to thoroughly investigate this incident, and the perpetrator will face disciplinary consequences.
“Our commitment to a safe and inclusive environment is unwavering. We understand that questions may arise, and we assure you that the school division will work closely with the sheriff’s office to complete a thorough investigation, hold the perpetrator accountable, and reinforce the universal ideals of diversity and inclusivity among our students.
We appreciate your support as we navigate through this, emphasizing that such behavior has no place in our school community or society at large.”

In addition, Vladu told Wavy 10, “We’ll commit to really provide more information as it becomes available.

This is the second incident of a racist message being found at a school on the Middle Peninsula this month. On January 10, a threatening statement was founded etched in the bathroom in the neighboring county at Mathews High School.

This is old news, since then it's escalated to Abingdon Elementary School as well as Abingdon Park restroom walls. I got the call. And we also have a student in Bethel elementary school who has threatened to bring a firearm to school a shoot another student first, the child has been terrified to go to school, and the child continues to antagonize that student to where the family removed the child from the school yesterday. The school has done nothing to reprimand that child who made the threat, Even after 5 other students came forward and backed up the child's story. Thse type of things is exactly why school pew pews happen. Nobody listened to the complaints that a 1st grader had brought a gun to school (3 separate reports had been made that day) shot his teacher, yep a 1st grader because nobody listened. that should have never happened.
